My Restylane Kysse Lip Enhancement Journey + Cannula Technique Explained
Are you thinking about enhancing your lips but unsure about the process or the technique?
I recently had Restylane Kysse filler applied to my lips using the Cannula method, and today, I’m sharing my experience and some tips to help you get the most out of your filler.

In this video, you’ll get an inside look at my lip enhancement journey, where I had 0.6ml of Restylane Kysse hyaluronic acid filler placed in my lips.
Lori, my injector, used the cannula technique, a method I’ve been using in the Natural Kaos App when I work on my lips.
Why I Chose Restylane Kysse for My Lips
Restylane Kysse is a popular choice for lip enhancement due to its advanced formulation with hyaluronic acid, offering soft, natural-looking results.
Specifically designed for the lips, this dermal filler adds subtle volume, smooths lip lines, and enhances the overall shape, giving a plumper, more youthful appearance. One of the standout features of Restylane Kysse is the XpresHAn Technology™, which allows for flexible movement and a natural feel, making it ideal for those who want a fuller yet expressive look.
This filler typically lasts up to 12 months or more, depending on various factors like metabolism, lifestyle, and how much product is used. That’s part of why it’s become my go-to choice for lip enhancement!
The Cannula Method: A Minimally Invasive Lip Filler Technique
When Lori enhanced my lips, she used the cannula method, a technique I highly recommend, especially for those worried about bruising or complications like vascular occlusion.
Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Inject Lidocaine
This is important for comfort and will be the worst part of getting your lips filled.
Step 2: Creating a Pilot Hole
The process begins with the injector creating a small pilot hole using a larger needle, typically a 25-gauge needle. This step is necessary for inserting the cannula.
Step 3: Inserting the Cannula
Once the pilot hole is made, a long, thin tube called a cannula is inserted. Unlike a traditional needle, a cannula is blunt-tipped and does not cut through tissue, which greatly reduces the risk of bruising or vascular occlusions.
The filler is then carefully deposited through the cannula, allowing for more precise placement and less trauma to the skin.
Benefits of the Cannula Technique
The cannula method is less invasive than traditional needle injections and typically causes less bruising, swelling, and downtime. Additionally, it can improve the safety of the procedure by lowering the risk of complications.
Best Methods for Making Your Lip Filler Last Longer
Once your lips are beautifully enhanced with Restylane Kysse, it’s important to follow certain practices to ensure that your filler lasts as long as possible:
- Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle: Drink plenty of water and consume a diet rich in vitamins and antioxidants to support skin health. Avoid habits like smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, which can break down fillers more quickly.
- Protect Your Skin from Sun Exposure: Prolonged exposure to UV rays can degrade hyaluronic acid, leading to a quicker breakdown of your filler. Always wear sunscreen, even on your lips, and avoid tanning beds.
- Avoid Intense Physical Activity Immediately After: Vigorous exercise can increase metabolism, speeding up the absorption of the filler. While exercise is great for overall health, be mindful of the intensity, especially right after your procedure.
- Limit Frequent Facial Movements: Repetitive facial movements, such as excessive lip puckering, can cause fillers to break down faster. Try to be gentle with your lips in the weeks following your filler session.
My Results and Next Steps
On August 14, Lori placed 0.6ml of Restylane Kysse into my lips, and in two weeks, she will complete the process with a touch-up using the remaining 0.4ml. I’m thrilled with the subtle volume and natural feel that Restylane Kysse provides.
If you’re considering lip enhancement, I highly recommend discussing the cannula method with your injector.
It has been a game-changer for me, offering minimal downtime and a more comfortable experience overall.
