Can you get HIV from a Vampire Facial? Are PRP Injections safe?

You may have heard that an unlicensed spa in New Mexico has now been linked to spreading HIV by way of injectable facial procedures, including PRP, aka the Vampire Facial.

Because of this recent news story, I thought sharing my Vampire Facial experience from 2021 was important.

I have indeed done my own PRP at home, and although it’s possible, it can be challenging.

Inside my Skin and Wellness app, you can find many who demonstrate doing their own PRP and Vampire Facials.

Last week’s video covered getting four vials of Sculptra, and that video is linked here. This week, we are covering PRP or the Vampire Facial.

I can’t imagine going to a medspa and, during a procedure, being exposed to HIV.

The investigation tracked current and former spa A clients who received new HIV diagnoses from 2018–2023. The report identified 59 clients considered at risk for HIV exposure (20 received vampire facials, and 39 received other injection services, such as Botox). The three HIV diagnoses were reported to the New Mexico Department of Health by clinicians.

The CDC report marks the first documented cases of HIV transmission through nonsterile cosmetic injection procedures.

This is a tragic scenario and one easily prevented. This medspa was obviously using dirty needles and contaminated spaces, which facilitated the spread of HIV.

This is why choosing a reputable location when dealing with blood is critical. It doesn’t have to be the most expensive place; it simply needs to be licensed, have referrals, and appear clean.

There is no excuse for reusing needles or microneedling pin cartridges; these elements are inexpensive, and I can’t understand why they would disregard the simple practice of using sterile needles.

AB CHECK

My weekly check-in as I attempt to build abs. I am keeping Myself Accountable! No Abs but at least I am still lean in this area which makes me happy!

FACE CHECK

You can see my temples have become fuller from doing mesotherapy sessions.

Two days ago, in the App, I placed Mayster PLLA around my face, and that’s why I have a few bruises.

I also have bruises in today’s footage, so let’s do a

2021 vs. 2024 face comparison.

You can see that my temple area is fuller today than in 2021. I think the biostimulators are working, and I love the gradual nature of it.

If you’re confused about what to look for when getting a PRP / Vampire Facial, this is a great example of how one should unfold.

VAMPIRE FACIAL AND PRP INJECTION PROCESS

PRP was pulled into a syringe, my face was prepped and cleaned.

PRP is placed under my eyes, forehead, and lower face.

Did you see how she opened sterile packed needles and microneedling cartridges?

Your provider should always open these in front of you; this way, you ensure the needles are sterile.

I know these procedures always look incredibly painful… that’s because they are, but as you start doing them, you will build up stamina; I know I have. I actually couldn’t believe I wasn’t flinching more as she poked me.

I call this “BEAUTY STAMINA.”
