You may have heard of PDO threads but have you heard of PCL threads?
I’ll place PCL threads along my vermilion border in today’s video to enhance lip definition. This treatment will help create a more structured lip shape, making applying lip liner and maintaining a crisp lipstick line easier.

PCL Threads for Lips – What to Expect
Using PCL threads in the lips is less common than PDO but offers longer-lasting structural support and collagen stimulation along the vermilion border. Since PCL threads take 2-3 years to dissolve, they help maintain definition and firmness over time.

Benefits of PCL Lip Threads:
✔️ Stronger, longer-lasting support for lip contouring
✔️ Gradual collagen stimulation for enhanced natural definition
✔️ More durable results compared to PDO (which dissolves in ~6 months)
✔️ Subtle improvement over time rather than an instant effect
Things to Consider:
⚠️ Initial swelling and stiffness due to the thicker thread material
⚠️ Slightly more discomfort compared to PDO threads
⚠️ Results develop gradually but last significantly longer
Because PCL threads are firmer and slower to dissolve, they work best for structural support rather than plumping. If your goal is to enhance lip shape and maintain definition, PCL can be a great choice.

How PCL Threads Compare to PDO & PLLA:
Here’s a chart that compares the different thread materials, from PDO to PLLA to PCL. PCL Poly-Capro-Latone is the strongest of these thread materials and can last up to 3 years, building collagen.
Thread Type | Dissolution Time | Collagen Stimulation | Best For | Immediate Lift? | Longevity of Results |
PDO (Polydioxanone) | ~6 months | Mild | Skin tightening, subtle lifting | Yes | 12-18 months |
PLLA (Poly-L-Lactic Acid) | 12-24 months | Strong | Volume restoration, long-term skin rejuvenation | Minimal | 18-24 months |
PCL (Polycaprolactone) | 24-36 months | Very strong | Deep tissue lifting, long-lasting collagen production | Minimal | 24-36 months |
One thing to keep in mind—PCL threads last so long that when I’ve had dental X-rays, they actually show up on the scan, looking like tiny worms around my mouth! 😆 So if you’re considering this treatment, be prepared for a surprise at your next dentist visit!

Who Should Consider PCL Threads?
🔹 People with moderate to severe skin laxity looking for a long-term lifting effect
🔹 Those wanting maximum collagen stimulation for anti-aging benefits
🔹 Patients who have tried PDO or PLLA threads and want a more durable solution
⚠️ Things to Keep in Mind:
• PCL threads are thicker and stronger, which can mean more downtime and swelling compared to PDO or PLLA.
• They do not provide an instant lift like PDO but gradually improve firmness and elasticity over time.
Which One Should You Choose?
• For a quick lift & definition → PDO Threads
• For collagen stimulation & gradual volume → PLLA Threads
• For deep, long-lasting anti-aging effects → PCL Threads

Choosing the Right Thread Type for Different Treatment Areas
Each thread type—PDO, PLLA, and PCL—has unique benefits. The best choice depends on your skin type, goals, and the area being treated. Here’s a guide to help you decide:
Treatment Area | Best Thread Type | Why? |
Eyebrow Lift (“Fox Eye”) | PDO | Provides an instant lift with minimal downtime |
Under-Eye (Tear Troughs) | PDO or PLLA | PDO for tightening; PLLA for volume loss |
Cheeks (Volume & Lift) | PLLA or PCL | PLLA for gradual plumping; PCL for deep, long-lasting support |
Jawline Contouring | PCL | Strongest lifting effect for sagging skin |
Nasolabial Folds (Smile Lines) | PLLA or PDO | PLLA for collagen stimulation; PDO for subtle lifting |
Marionette Lines (Corners of Mouth) | PDO or PLLA | PDO for structure; PLLA for collagen stimulation |
Neck Tightening | PDO or PCL | PDO for mild tightening; PCL for deeper sagging |
Lip Definition (Vermilion Border) | PDO or PCL | Best for subtle contouring and definition |
Décolletage (Chest Wrinkles) | PLLA or PCL | PLLA for skin quality; PCL for deep wrinkle correction |
Body (Knees, Arms, Abdomen, Buttocks) | PCL | Best for deep skin tightening and long-lasting results |
My Lip Plan

In case you don’t understand the information on a threads package here is how to read one.

The first block says “M” for MONO, meaning it’s a single straight filament.
The second block denotes the size. 30G means 30 gauge, which is how thick the needle is; 30G is very tiny. The thread length is 25 mm.
The third block explains the material; in this example, it is PCL.
So, M3025 means a single filament thread, 30 gauge in thickness and 25mm in length. This is a PCL material thread that will last up to 3 years.

Before placing the mouth threads, I numb the area with 10.5% numbing cream I purchased from Korea. I do this by first cleaning my lips, then derma-rolling the area I plan on sticking, coating it with a thick layer of numbing cream, and covering it with plastic wrap.

Because of online censorship, I will only demonstrate placing these threads and sourcing inside my private skin and wellness app, which is linked in the description box and in this video. Thank you for your understanding, and I will be back after placement.
This is what my lips look like before placing 20 PCL threads.

This is what my lips look like 24 hours after placement. Remember, the threads I am using are for biostimulation over tie. This means they will build collagen structure over the next 36 months, helping to support my aging skin.

I hope this gave you insight into using PCL threads around your mouth, and I’ll see you on the next video and blog.
