Melanotan 1 vs. 2: My Summer Journey & Real Results

Are you curious about Melanotan 1 or 2? The peptides that make you tan?

These tanning peptides have been termed the “Barbie Peptides” because they can make you tan, increase libido, and reduce hunger.

Are these peptides the magical injection that many swear by? and will you look like Barbie?

If you’ve been following my journey, you know I used Melanotan 1 and 2 this summer to manage my polymorphous light eruption allergy, and I’m excited to share my successful experience.

Here are answers to many questions you’ve asked regarding my use of Melanotan this summer…

How did you decide between Melanotan 1 and Melanotan 2?

Great question! I started with Melanotan 2 for the first month to really kickstart my tanning process.

It’s known for its faster results because it spurs more Alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). This helped me build a strong melanin protection layer quickly.

Then, I switched to Melanotan 1 for maintenance since it has a more gradual effect.

This transition really worked for me!

.

How I used Melanotan 1 and Melanotan 2?

– In the first month, I injected Melanotan 2 12 times; these were not consecutive days.

I spaced it about 3 times per week.

I did this purposefully because I would inject at midday, and then I would go outside and lay out for 30-60 minutes.

– Moving into Month 2, I switched to Melanotan 1, injecting twice weekly to maintain my tan.

– Over the summer, I did notice some small white dots that seemed to resist tanning.

If you’re fair-skinned like me, don’t be alarmed; it’s pretty normal!”

BEGAN: MT2 Started In-App Live: April 22, 2024

Over 4 weeks, I dosed with MT2 12 times. Each time, I did my injection around noon and immediately went outside and lay in the sun to help activate melanin production.

Other people seemed to have activated by day 5, but for me, I needed many more days, and consistent sun exposure to help trigger my melanin. If you are fair like me, you may have a similar experience.

This is called Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis (IGH), and it occurs more commonly with increasing age and is found in 87% of people over the age of 40 years.

The most common sites of occurrence are the upper and lower extremities, but it may also be found quite frequently over the trunk or face. Fair-skinned individuals normally have a higher incidence.

SOURCE

The melanotan peptides did not give me white dots. Instead, I only noticed these white dots because the surrounding melanocytes could produce melanin, causing those areas that cannot stand out. As the darker areas of my skin fade, the presence of the white dots will be less as well.

In Month 3, I’ll admit I wasn’t as consistent with injecting twice a week.

Sometimes, it was just once, and yes, my tan didn’t stay as dark. But even with a lower dose, I still felt well protected from the sun! I never once had a sunburn or rash flare-up at Lake Powell or in this summer’s intense triple-digit weather

.

Using the Melanotan peptides this summer truly gave me a wonderful experience. Previously, I couldn’t prevent it from flaring up unless I took steroids every time I went in the summer sunlight.

I didn’t take a single steroid this summer and was outside more this summer than my past 10 summers.

Did you get nauseous using Melanotan?

Many have asked about nausea. I’ve heard that some people experience it, but personally, I never did! My tip? Inject in the evening.

That way, you can sleep through any potential side effects.

Did you get Melasma on your face and hands?

A large concern with using melanin-inducing peptides is that they can darken melasma.

This is a true concern, especially if you’ve spent a lot to keep your melasma in check.

I did develop more color on my face this summer than I wanted. However, this was an acceptable trade-off for me based on my solar allergy.

.

I also shared in previous videos how religious I was with sunscreen on my face and hands. Plus, hats, big glasses, and anything else I could do to be vigilant in protecting areas I did not want melanin to increase.

Will you use Melanotan year-round?

We are in August, and the amount of sun exposure I’ll encounter is now decreasing.

I’ll discontinue my Melanotan 1 use this week; in fact, here is my last dose.

By no longer injecting and with less sun exposure, my skin will begin to fade as skin cells cycle over. This is a normal part of skin cell turnover, so don’t worry if yours does too! Just remember, I’ll start this cycle again next spring in preparation for summer 2025, so stay tuned.

Using Melanotan peptides has been a game-changer for me, especially for my solar allergy, like polymorphous light eruption. I went to my dermatologist, but they only offer steroids to treat this condition. I wish this were not our current medical landscape. Unfortunately, it is, and you need to be your own advocate, and I hope I can continue inspiring this concept.

If you’ve been struggling, I encourage you to investigate this concept. I have a few videos and blogs about my experience so far, and then inside the skin and wellness app, we have a large peptide group.

Let’s keep glowing together, and I’ll see you in the next video!
