I’m microneedling my face with the Dr. Pen M8S and a 36-pin cartridge. I’ve always loved using a 36-pin cartridge for infusing serums.

Microneedling Cartridges Explained
Microneedling cartridges come with different numbers of pins, and today I’ll be using my favorite: the 36-pin cartridge.
When choosing a microneedling cartridge, remember that fewer pins result in a more aggressive treatment.
Nanoneedles are ideal for boosting product absorption—by up to 97%! Cartridges with 11-16 pins work best for treating acne scars, while 36-42 pin cartridges are great for covering larger areas of acne scarring.
Which Microneedling Cartridge Should You Use?
• Nanoneedle: Best for product absorption (up to 97% more).
• For Resurfacing Scars: A 9 or 16-pin cartridge works best (numbing is recommended).
• For Resurfacing the Face: The 36-42 pin cartridge is the most versatile. (I don’t use numbing with this one).
The Dr. Pen M8S improved the microneedling cartridge by adding scallops to the edge. This has helped significantly by reducing the surface vaccum that could occur with flat surface cartrdiges.
Always use a fresh new cartridge each time you microneedle.
Each time you microneedle, you should use a new, unused cartridge and dispose of the old one. Some people wonder if they can sanitize and reuse cartridges, and while it’s technically possible to sanitize them, that’s not the only reason to replace them.
Just like insulin needles, the pins in microneedling cartridges can become dull, or “burr,” after use. Sharp, fresh pins are crucial for effective microneedling. Dull pins can tear your skin rather than piercing it cleanly, which can lead to less effective results and potential damage.
How to insert your cartridge into the Dr Pen?
Make sure your Dr. Pen is dialed to 0 before inserting the microneedling cartridge. This ensures the cartridge is seated properly in the pen.

Once inserted, twist the cartridge to lock it securely in place.
Some people have experienced their cartridges popping off during microneedling. This usually happens because the cartridge wasn’t inserted correctly, or the twist lock shifted while using the pen. As you microneedle, check periodically to ensure the cartridge remains tightly locked in place.
Which microneedling serum is best?
I’ve microneedled with both inexpensive and more expensive serums.
First, understand that the mechanical action of the Dr. Pen pricking your skin stimulates collagen production. So, even using a cheap hyaluronic acid , will still trigger collagen induction.
Second, there are countless microneedling serums available, each with ingredients that can address your specific skincare needs.
Third, your skin barrier usually prevents products from penetrating deeply. Microneedling creates channels in the epidermis, making it the perfect opportunity to infuse ingredients like peptides, antioxidants, and moisture more effectively.
With this in mind, I’ve chosen to use the Curenex line, which offers a comprehensive blend of ingredients to give your skin a radiant glow.

How I Microneedle at home with Curenex?
Once your pen is set up properly, your face is clean, and your serum is ready, it’s time to start microneedling. I begin by applying serum to my forehead, then I turn on my Dr. Pen M8S, set the depth to 1mm, and adjust the speed to 1.
The skin depth on different areas of your face varies, so I’m sharing what I did during my microneedling session as a reference. I often get asked about the best depth and speed settings, but these will differ based on your skin and comfort level. Adjust accordingly to what feels right for you.
I use this depth and speed for the majority of my face.
Around my eyes, I reduce the depth to .5mm, keeping the speed at 1.

I microneedled my chicken pox scar at a 1mm depth and at a 1 speed.

Microneedling Lips at 1mm depth and 1 speed.
Be sure to microneedle your lips at the end of your session. Since the mouth harbors a lot of bacteria, there’s a risk of spreading infection to other areas of your face. If you choose to microneedle your lips, do it last, and avoid using the same cartridge on the rest of your face afterward.
After you finish microneedling, remove the cartridge from your device and dispose of it properly. Pack in any remaining Curenex serum.
Microneedling After Care
I topped with the Curenex Daily Skin Booster.
Next, I added the Curenex Sheet Mask
To extend the hydration and life of the sheet mask add the silicone sheet mask to cover the top.
BEAUTY HACK
While I sheet mask, I continue to pamper by including an LED neck treatment and hair stimulation treatment.

This is the Nuderma High Frequency wand and it stimulates blood flow around your hair follicles for healthier longer hair.
I treat my scalp for about 5 minutes and then I continue to let my face marinate in the sheet mask.
Remove Mask
Once your face feels less sensitive, you can remove your sheet mask. If you don’t have a silicone sheet mask cover, allow the mask to sit for 10-15 minutes, but be careful not to let it dry out, as that would counteract the hydrating benefits for your skin.
